The Ockley Society’s Aim:

... developing, supporting and encouraging village community life and spirit ...’

The Ockley Society is a group of enthusiastic, local villagers, whose aim is to develop, support and encourage a healthy village community spirit.

We do this by putting on several events over the year which we hope that people will want to join in with.

We hold two quiz evenings a year, one in March and another in October. Teams of six are invited to pit their brains against others, the event is held in the Village Hall and a hot meal is always included, along with a bar to keep those brain cells moving.

In September each year we run the 'Coarse Cricket Sevens' competition. the village is divided into teams for a day’s fun knock out cricket on our fabled Green. Each team can only field one “proper ”cricketer, so it’s really a chance for those who have more enthusiasm than ability to take part.

Each November we organise the village Bonfire and Fireworks display. this takes place in the field behind the pond on The Green. The bonfire is lit by volunteers from the crowd (no charge for lighting the bonfire), hot soup and BBQW are available from the marquee and the firework display follow later when the fire has died down a little.

December sees the Carols on the Green, a Christmas Tree is erected on The Green, and it has an 'official lighting' ceremony outside the Pavilion. Everyone is invited to gather around, to meet and greet old and new friends.

FREE Mulled wine, hot chocolate and mince pies are provided and Father Christmas has been known to make an appearance; he often has chocolate coins to give out to the children
